For the patients
The Internal Medicine Department is the only such department at the University Hospital of Heraklion, Greece. It has a capacity of 44 beds (34 beds for medical patients and 10 beds for patients with infectious diseases); its medical staff consists of 5 academic members, nine doctors of the National Health System, two infectious diseases fellows, and residents.
The Department consists of:
- Internal Medicine ward (annual traffic >1600 patients)
- Infections Unit (includes the HIV outpatient department and the Immunocompromised Patients Unit).
- Diabetes Unit (Diabetes Center in collaboration with PAGNI Endocrinology Department of the University Hospital of Heraklion, Greece)
- Outpatient Clinics (medical, hypertensive, metabolic-obesity, geriatric, infectious, and HIV outpatient units)
- Research laboratory at the School of Medicine, University of Crete, Greece
